Renown for years as one of “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy”, Cervo has preserved intact its highly original characteristics of a medieval costal town, protected by sixteenth century towers and walls, against a backdrop of green hills. The historic center is a pedestrian area and is preserved with its age-old buildings. Its cobbled alleys are decorated with craftsman and artists’ workshops.
Beyond the village, around the ruins of past eras, the hills are covered in pine woods and olive trees, criss-crossed by quiet paths. The only sounds are those of the clear blue sea below. Cervo’s table has remained peacefully true to the Mediterranean tradition: oil obtained from cold-pressed Taggiasca olives, wine produced with local grapes (pigato and vermentino) and dishes with freshly caught fish accompanied by home-grown vegetables and herbs.

It’s known to have a more down-to-earth atmosphere than it’s neighbour to the east, Riviere di Levante, which holds the regional monopoly on luxury and sophistication, with Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli, and Rapallo strung like expensive jewels along the coast. The Cinque Terre ("The Five Lands") is a rugged portion of breathtaking landscape located west to the city of La Spezia. It’s composed of five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore; all of which slope down to sea-level except for Corniglia, which is perched on top of a tall cliff. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. More
